cant connect xp laptop via wifi to sagem sky router

      Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This is doing my nut in!

      Heres the scenario:-

Just moved into a mates who has sky BB with sagem wifi router.
I have an XP wifi laptop that works like a dream on any other wifi connection

I have the passkey as its written on the router
The passkey is accepted but the "aquireing ip address" keeps cycling until it eventually times out and i get "limited connectivity" on the laptop suggesting there is no IP address being assigned.

I have reset the IP stack using netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt etc etc, rebooted - no joy

NIC works like a dream and allows me to access 192.168.1.0 and allows me to chack setup and all is default.

I have reset the router - no joy

I have removed the security from the wifi - no joy

I have plugged in the cat5 cable and tried to then access wifi - no joy

I am sitting next to the damn thing and cant get a connection wirelessly only via cable.

      Help!

If its relevant - yellow network cable connects to an Imac and that works fine, just nothing via wifi

      any suggestions are welcome

      Cheers

The default password is all capitals and is case-sensitive.

Have you got a fixed IP address on your lappy per chance?

Oops! Of course not. You can connect via ethernet!

Have you set MAC filtering for the WiFi?

I assume you are connecting by 192.168.0.1 and your 192.168.1.0 is a typo.

What information does running ipconfig /all produce?

This is usually an indication that the pass key is wrong. You say you removed the security from the wifi, do you mean you disabled the security in the router? If you did, did you remember to click Apply?

Re: cant connect xp laptop via wifi to sagem sky router

The passkey is case sensitive. Also, depending on the wireless adapter used by the laptop and the software and drivers, I have found that if you then disable the security the laptop won't always work unless you change the network name or remove it and rescan. The MS wireless drivers and software is pretty crap.
