      Network printing using Sagem router

OK so I've setup both my parents and sisters Sky broadband with network printing using the supplied NetGear routers, simple and easy. I have now switched to sky from BT and cannot get the router to recognise my network printer. I've tried all 4 LAN ports on the router but no joy. This was so straightforward with previous installs and also with the 2Wire router supplied by BT. What am I missing?
I actually much prefer the user interface of the 2Wire router, can I switch back to using this with Sky BB?
      Any help much appreciated

What diagnostics have you done so far?

Have you tried replacing the ethernet cable? If you can connect another ethernet device to the Sky router and you get a good connection, my first suspect would be the printer/print server. You need to work though some troubleshooting in a logical manner before you assume that the router is the problem. The Sky router is built for the job and whilst you can use any ADSL2+ compatible router, it is against the Ts&Cs. I have seen router/switch ports fail (usually in pairs) after they have been shorted out but if the ports are working for other devices then it isn't likely.

More info required to be able to assist further.

Re: Network printing using Sagem router

If you were using the BT supplied Hub then it's the IP range that has changed.
BT Hubs use the range 192.168.1.n and Sky use the range 192.168.0.n. So if your printer has been using a fixed IP address then it's likely that it's address is outside the Sky range.
Open up the Sky IP range so that you can access the printer!

Ahhhh thanks I thought it might be something like that, was just confused as the previous 2 installs were so easy, but of course they were both with new printers on new installs, whereas mine isn't. Thanks again for the super fast response.

that didn't seem to work, so instead I connected to the printer via the old BT router and changed the IP settings on the jetdirect card instead. I think it was the default gateway setting causing the problem as it was set to 192.168.1.1 from the old router. Anyway all sorted and many thanks again, it was really doing my head in.

Re: Network printing using Sagem router

If it was a BT Home Hub you were using then it's default IP address (and the Gateway) would have been 192.168.1.254! The Sky equivalent is 192.168.0.1.
Changing the Gateway on the Jet Direct to 192.168.0.1 should cure it!
I still use my old BT Home Hub (V2) for wifi access 'cos it's draft 'n' wifi speed!

I had a Home Hub but couldn't stand the way it lit up the hallway like cheap Xmas lights so carried on using the 2Wire hub I originally had. But yes you're right when I eventually figured out how to get into the JetDirect card to change the settings everything worked a treat.
