      Constant Connection Drops

      Hey All,

I am having problems with my Sky Broadband. When trying to use the net I am constantly getting a page cannot be found problem.

As soon as I log into my router and disconnect and reconnect it works fine again for a while before the same happens. Sometimes if i refresh the page a few times it works again.

I'm not sure if it is the sky broadband connection or the router. However as it works again when resetting the connection it leans more towards the router than the connection.

The stats i have from my Netgear DG834GT (firmware 1.03.87) router are as follows:

      --------------------------------------
      System Up Time 20:33:07
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 94067 109057 0 34562 41644 00:29:56
      LAN 10M/100M 1537527 2290890 0 4481 33531 20:33:04
      WLAN 11M/54M/108M 229617 117559 0 3960 105 20:32:56

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3424 kbps 320 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 7.0 db
      --------------------------------------

I know the noise margin is on the low side however i did have a working connection from Sky without any drop in connection for over a year.

When plugging into the test socket on the master socket the speed goes up to 7mb and the noise margin increases as well. (Plan on rewiring the extensions at some point soon).

Has anyone had the same problem?

      Thanks

      Paul

That is very Good. Could you post some comparison stats from the test socket please?

Extensions will be causing the problem. Another thing that you could do is to put in a filtered faceplate instead save you wiring up the extensions again. All it will mean is that your router will have to be quite close to the Master socket, providing that you have NTE5.

You can get all the information that you need here:
ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate

Although if you do want to go for the re-wiring then I would like to suggest, if you can use CAT5e. Although there is not a huge speed advantage over normal twisted pair phone cable, it is useful for all the spare cable pairs it has.

You need to 'cut' the bellwire on the leadout(s) to your extensions. That will improve your line speed and reduce interference. There is a link here!

This is bull****, I'm sorry, but I too am getting these slow net problems, pages will load like a bloody 56k and then my connection will cut off.

This problem is to do with Sky scamming us..

Rather than posting unhelp comments could you leave some a little more constructive and if you don't have anything then say nothing. Sky would not simply be sitting there cutting you connection. You might actually like to do some reading up about these sorts of problem before you leave comments.

I'm sorry but are you a moderator or an admin???..

I actually know a lot about these problems etc and I too have been having this problem. How do you know what Sky would and would not do? Do you work for them??

What evidence have you got for this, other than a slow connection which could caused by many reasons.

I'll be surprised if the OP ever comes back seeing all the tosh in this thread!

Wirless- if you have a problem with Sky, take it to Sky please.
