Horrific internet speed at peak times

So basically, between 5-10pm i get terrible download speeds on my internet. It is currently around 0.3mbit and it takes forever just to load a page on the forums!

Throughout the rest of the day i get perfect high speed broadband that download at a rate you would expect for my sync speed (5mbit)

      Exchange Status Checker

I am guessing the above link is why. It is really annoying. cant even play an online game if someone else in the building wants to browse the net.

      What can i do??!?!?

ps. the ETA of fix on that website has been saying something new every time they update it since like january....

you'll find about a million other threads about this btw...i'm also being hit now and i don't even download ANYTHING so i think Sky need to have a word...pretty sure it's over-active traffic management...

ah well, at least i don't rely on my internet...

only been reported at this levels of slowness the last week or so...there's a few theories bouncing about but I'm pretty sure it's something going wrong between Sky/BT...sucks but I'm getting by (just) - although updating Ubuntu is painfully slow...will do it the morning instead!!! lol!!!

Re: Horrific internet speed at peak times

I also have come in here to see what on earth is going on. Did get regularly over 10 MB DL speeds and am lucky to get 1 now at peak times. Still getting the occasional 10 MB in the early hours so it can't be my setup...

      Edit:

Actually, now that I did this Namesco Speedtest it is giving 14 MB

Getting really crap ones on thinkbroadband. Any idea why this would be?

Thinkbroadband always gives poor test results for me. The speed test on this site is much better/more accurate

Oh thanks for that... I have to admit I had not even noticed there was one on this site! I do get better on that as well:

Your current download speed is 8888Kbps, and your current upload speed is 618Kbps.

I guess I have just been experiencing some usual congestion when all of the US is online...

^ your issue is nothing like the OPs/mine...we're on Connect which is subject to (overzealous) traffic shaping...Max is completely unlimited...

Oh sorry... did not notice that. I guess I am expecting to see traffic management applied to the Max service any day now as well, that's why I started getting worried as things started to look like my previous ISP, Freedom2Surf who I left after the traffic shaping made downloading more or less impossible.

Weird thing that thinkbroadband speed test though, as I did use to get very constant and good results with it until a few weeks ago, and that's why I used it as a benchmark.
