      Question Sky disconnects

      Hey.

I recently switched to Sky Broadband (Max) from my old ISP AOL.
Now I am not sure if this has been happening since day one, but I've only noticed it three nights ago.
Every night at round about 9:45 PM every device connected to the Sky router loses connection. Well it doesn't as it still says it's connected but the internet just doesn't work if you see what I mean. After less than a minute it comes back up. I wouldn't really be bothered about it but it mainly happens when I'm in the middle of something important or if I am on the Xbox 360 in a game + speaking with friends. It just disconnects.
Any idea's on how to resolve this issue?

      Hi LiamMc03, welcome to SkyUser.

This sounds like a common problem of the SNR dropping too low in the evening*, but... before jumping to wild conclusions without any basis in hard fact (!), head over to Router stats, take a look as some stickies and post some router stats because that's just about the first thing you'll be asked.

*There's a "fix" for this if that's all it is.

      Re: Sky disconnects

If you have one, try plugging the router into the Test socket behind the master socket faceplate and take the stats from there. Your noise margin is dropping very low and this causes the router to re-sync. If there is a fault in your internal wiring, using the test socket will bypass it. Post your stats from there.

Some Sky routers seem to sync at too high a speed for the connection to be maintained, yours may be one of these.

Hmm Okay. I shall do that.
Also another problem ever since I switched to Sky Broadband, Windows Live Messenger has been having problems. It shows me as signed in and my contacts on-line. I speak to them as usual it says the messages is sent but it doesn't send and I don't receive. When I sign out of WLM it says Messeage was unable to be sent!

      Any idea's?

      Exclamation Re: Sky disconnects

This is what I get when plugged into the testing part of the socket (under the cover) with the router tests and speedtest.net

      Speed Test:

      Router Stats:

I also noticed the net is MUCH quicker when in the test socket!

These stats tell us that your internal wiring is causing a lot of noise on your line. Fit an ADSLNation filter and this will solve 99.9% of your problems.

Thanks. Doe it have to replace the master socket, or can it go on the second phone?

      Re: Sky disconnects

It really must replace the faceplate of the Master socket or it will not do what it is intended to do. There are types available which can be fitted to an extension socket but these do not isolate the rest of the wiring. All they do is replace the plug in type filter.
