      Not sure what to do?

I have had Sky Broadband for over a year now, in that time I had an issue with connection being dead which they fixed after 4 weeks! but since that everything has gone perfect.

A steady 4mb (my lines capacity) for over 6 months.

Recently my connection has been going off, mostly in the evenings it seems, but it happened during the day yesterday and today, the I light on my router blinks orange, wheres normally it blinks green. Then after sometime it comes back.

I have tested my phones and there is some terrible background hissing appeared, this hissing is worse when the internet is playing up, today it was worse than ever, so I rushed to the master socket and instantly everything went crystal clear, the line was completely clean. I phoned BT yesterday and they tested my line and all is clean, I also phoned Sky who also say my line is clean, when the internet works, its perfect.

My problem though is this, the master socket seems fine inside, but the bit that comes away has an extension wired into it, this provides a socket at the back of the living room, from this socket is another wired into the kitchen, and from what I can tell the kitchen one has another extension running to the bedroom (where the PC and router are). But this setup has worked flawlessly since living here, why the trouble now?

Back to the master socket, On the bit that comes away it looks really untidy, there are blue cables wired in for extensions and the rest are just dangling down, when the actual phone is plugged into the master socket its clear as a bell, but when the front plate is screwed on and the phone plugged into the face, it starts to crackle (but only occasionally) does my master socket need looking at?

I want to call BT out to sort my socket out incase it messed up, but cant afford to pay them the ridiculous 150 call out/repair they want, and having tried to rewire phone connections in the past Ill just make it worse myself lol, what can I do? for all I know the cabling could be fine, as its worked flawlessly for months and months of constant use

sounds like you need a new ADSLNation faceplate (about 12).

Yes they come with full instructions. But I notice that you have your router away from the master socket, if you get a filter faceplate, you will have to relocate the router or give it a dedicated extension

Re: Not sure what to do?

the idea of the adslnation faceplate is that it filters out the interference that your extention cabling is causing. A normal BT faceplate does not do this (unless you buy an iplate).

you really need to buy the new faceplate and relocate the router if you can.

Will the faceplate linked above work for 12? so Im guessing I would need to wire a long ethernet cable to the PC upstairs right? this is possible me thinks

      that's exactly what I do.

I bought the above faceplate for 12 and my connection became more stable and sync went up from 2Mb to 4Mb (when I was on plusnet). I then have some external grade cat5 cable 20meters from the router up to my main PC (where I can an draft n wireless router).
