Is anyone else having poor download speeds from here?.
      thinkbroadband :: Broadband Speed Test

I frequently get speeds like this

      Router stats:

Connection Speed 14506 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 31 db 8 db
Noise Margin 5 db 18 db

This site tester, speedtest.net and BBMax gives speeds in the same ball park.

Having brought the TBB speeds to the attention of their staff, they seem to think it could be throttling or a routing issue. The fact that during "Off peak" times TBB speeds are on a par with the other sites, makes one wonder.

      Re: Thinkbroadband.com speedtester

Just done another test at TBB using port 80 (same as ours afaik)

      Date 12/10/08 16:53:07
      Speed Down 4126.52 Kbps ( 4 Mbps )
      Speed Up 736.32 Kbps ( 0.7 Mbps )

So I would guess that would rule out throttling in my eyes.

      Re: Thinkbroadband.com speedtester

Virtually the same, so I don't think routing is a problem. Good speeds are obtained during "Off Peak" times though.

      07/10/08 09:38 12171.77 Kbps 641.93 Kbps 90.218.63.149
      06/10/08 23:38 11897.02 Kbps 641.96 Kbps 90.216.97.30
      06/10/08 23:29 12104.86 Kbps 642.05 Kbps 90.216.97.30

Seb isn't interested, he says if it was a widespread problem for Sky users, there would be more complaints.

They can be a bit snooty on TBB (they don't really like LLU and think the world will end if BT ever give up their profiles) Use another site for speed tests, pref this one

      Re: Thinkbroadband.com speedtester

my speeds are always good and i regularly torrent at 1.6mb/sec yet the think broadband site gave me a downstream throughput of 3.3mb sec. My conclusion - rubbish, there is no substitute for downloading several large files at once at working out the average throughput

      Re: Thinkbroadband.com speedtester

Speedtests can only show you what your speed is at that time, its just a guide at the end of the day. There are just too many factors, like contention, routing, load on the server etc.

Our speed test uses bandwidth for downloading from all over the world from different data centres, hopefully alleviating any routing issues. So should be reasonably accurate 99% of the time. (of course we don't guarantee that)

This is the company that we use, and an explanation of how their network works etc.
