sorry if im missing something, but ive tried all the channels and the response is either no connection at all or the intermittent dropping and connecting again

Which is completely wrong I'm afraid. If you've read that 1, 7 and 11 are non overlapping then it was written by an American. Here in Europe we use channels 1-13, so the non overlapping channels are 1, 7 and 13 (not that this has any relevance to the OP's problem I suspect).

Had a customer on call last night in a block of flats, 10+ networks in range spread across the majority of channels. She understood the issue and was happy to try each one and if they wouldn't hold properly she was going to use ethernet. Sometimes wireless just isn't a good way to go

Yes I agree with you Paul, in fact I would go as far as saying it is never a good way to go if it can be avoided. I cannot see the point in going all out (filter faceplate, short cables etc) to get the fastest sync you can, to then throw it away with poor throughput caused by poor wireless.

That's absolutely right. The current wireless standards simply aren't up to the demands being made on them - yet wireless continues to be pushed as a viable and usable home technology. Unless and until greater separation between the channels is possible, to offer 13 channels is pretty meaningless, It only takes three other devices in range to give no clear spectrum availability to other users.

Have you tried my suggestion to turn of the router security to see if you can connect? In addition disable any security on your PC.

I would further suggest that you turn off the router security and start your PC in Safe Mode with Networking. If it works, don't run it too long, as your PC will be wide open to threats.

      Re: Connection....No connection....Connection....No connection!

So did you try it with the security disabled?

If it says the key is incorrect, then it is, PCs don't make mistakes, apart from the part between the keyboard and chair that is.
Check that your PC is set to use the correct type WPA or WEP, whatever you have set in the router.
