Non Sky atm , but need tome advice on FEC errors

I have just read that high FEC errors can be due to a faulty line/line card at my exchange ? my line drops out quite often when the snr dips to below 2 and takes around 30 mins to resync, tiscali have set my target noise margin @ 10 but it still happens like yesterday morning .

If so , how can i go about getting this fixed , my phone is with sky including rental , but BB is still with tiscali untill 9th Oct when it switches to sky max

I have seen your posts over on DSL Zone and I am doubtful that the card is the problem. However as you are switching to Sky soon, the best bet is to see what happens then. I see that you have an activation date of 6th to 9th, it's quite normal for there to be a 3 day time span, but 9 time out of ten, the switch will take place on the morning of the first day.
While you are waiting have a read of the cable and faceplate section and ensure your internal wiring is up to scratch.

Re: Non Sky atm , but need tome advice on FEC errors

      Hi
Yes i have , everything is on my wiring is fine , no extentions just 2 pairs come into my property and only to wires connected to the socket , router in test socket etc , its just of late my connection seems to be geting worse (over the past couple of weeks) and i'm trying to nail the problem down before switching as i want a decent line.

There also seems to be another BT line comming from the small box on my wall outside running around the back of the house , not got the guts to open up to see if its connected to my main pair thou ..

Just to be sure, follow this extra line round the building and see where it goes, it may be an extension you know nothing about.

the socket this extra line connects to is dead , and looks like it may have been an extra line

I have 3 x BT lines coming from the BT box on the wall 2x come into where my main socket is and the other one goes round to this dead socket . now i'm wondering if this dead on is in some way connected to the main phone line in the BT box ... may have alook later if it stops raining

Re: Non Sky atm , but need tome advice on FEC errors

While it's raining, just open up this dead extension, and check that it has wires connected. It could be that the the line to it is still connected at the BT end, and the socket is disconnected from the line at the extension end. If this is the case you may have found your problem.
