Unhappy vpn drops over wireless DG834GT

      Hi All,

I have this weird problem where my vpn client gets disconnected around every 15 min.

The strange part is that this is only happening when I connect to my Netgear router via wireless, it does NOT happen when I connect via regular ethernet where the vpn client stays connected for hours.

I'm using Cisco VPN Client Version 5.0.03.0560 and windows XP SP3 (but I'm having the same problem on Linux and vpnc).

I'm not sure where to start to debug this issue but everything points out to the wireless settings.

Any help or guidance is highly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance,

      Dan

Does the wireless drop if you aren't using VPN?

No it doesn't ... wireless connection is very stable and when the client disconnect the wireless connection remains up ... the problem is only with the vpn client which disconnects

When wired does the VPN work OK?

I have had this problem with my work laptop connecting wirelessly with VPN for some time. I also use the CICSO VPN Client software.

It turned out there was another application that was affecting the VPN when using wifi. I do not understand totally why this only applied to wifi but it did

The app in question on my laptop is Sanctuary from SecureWave, Worldwide leader provider of Endpoint Security Solutions
It checks for external devices that I plug in to the laptop, it only allows approved devices to be connected (approved by my company) and restricts how I can access those devices, forcing encryption etc.

In order to resolve this some "exclusion" to the rules Sanctuary applies had to be made pending a software fix from securewave.

I am not sure if this is your exact problem but worth considering that some other app may be affecting wifi if wired is ok.

      HTH
