Sorry, my mistake. When you said you had an ADSL faceplate I did not realize it was an extension faceplate, used in place of the Master socket.

Re: Downstream Keeps getting lower & lower..

I used to have a BT face plate, as well as and external extension point.

I cut the line outside before the external extension point and plugged in a ADSL filter socket directly on the line.

I have ordered a new master face plate and adsl filter from adslnation.

I am hoping this will make a difference.

If anyone has any info which might be helpful to me, please let me know.

But other wise i will post an update once i have installed the new master socket as well as the adsl filter.

Thank you both for your help.

As Brian has said you will need a NTE5 line box and backplate as well to plug the faceplate into. Something like THIS

Re: Downstream Keeps getting lower & lower..

      Hi,

My New Master socket + adsl Nation filter arrived today.

Sucessfully install both and here are my results....

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 416 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 11.5 db 10.0 db

      Not much change...

the only difference i can see is the Noise Margin has droped by 2 db i think....

One thing i have can think of is that the BT line coming into my house is at the same point where the electrics are, so my master socket and filter are under (to the left) of the electric meter and *old* fuse box.
And the BT cable is running under these, can you shield the BT cable in anyway? Or do i not need to worry about this?

Shall i still ask Sky to uncap the BB line? Do you think it might make a difference?

Re: Downstream Keeps getting lower & lower..

Ask Sky to uncap you, it looks like you will get about 2Mb, which is not bad on a long line. Noise margins rise and fall depending on when it is taken.

Re: Downstream Keeps getting lower & lower..

You don't think there is anything else i can do at my end before i ask them to uncap the line...?

You don't think my electrics being a problem?

You think i;m worrying about the little things?

I don't want to ask Sky to uncap my line when there is something else i could do my end....

      Cheers

Re: Downstream Keeps getting lower & lower..

If you have fitted the new Master socket and faceplate, there is nothing else you can do, any problems then would be external and outside your control. If things have not improved you may then be able to get Sky to have BT have another look at your line.

Re: Downstream Keeps getting lower & lower..

OK, Fair enough. Just wanted to make sure i was doing everything i could before i contacted sky...

Re contacting sky, do i just simply ask "can you uncap my line please"?

Will they understand that or do i need to go via a special team? (tier2)?

      Many Thanks

I am sure if you call and explain that you were capped due to line problems which have now been fixed, they will sort you out.
