Help and advice with bb please

Hi guys , first of all I'm new here so "hello"
Ok here goes , I recently switched to sky from vm (not happy with the bb)
When I ordered I was sold the max 16mb package.
The bb has gone live now but I am only getting between 2-3 mb
So I found the link for the line checker and it says my line is only capable of 3 mb.
I rang sky and they advised me to wait a week as the line was still settling in etc , then I mentioned I had done the test and knew the line was only capable of 3mb.
They then changed their mind and said "oh yes I was gonna mention that as well" I should hope so I thought lol.
So can anyone give me any advice as I feel I have been "led up the garden path" slightly.
Obviously I'm not gonna keep paying for 16mb when I'm only getting 2-3mb.
Is there anything I can do , ideally I would like the speed increased.is there any planned upgrades etc in the worsley/manchester area which might help me out in the future ?
To be honest I am very impressed with the bb , vm was constantly dropping out etc.
      Thanks in advance.

Cool Re: Help and advice with bb please

You're paying less for Sky, and as you're on the max, the fair useage policy has been disbanded. What u got 2 complain about?

^^^ lol, as steesh says, the max product is now truely unlimited so youve no need to worry about downloading, the internet is yours for the taking. However if thats not your thing and a 40 meg dl limit and slightly reduced upload would satisy you then ask to be downgraded to mid.

PS - you will have to forgive our friday night humour, its usually alchohol induced. Welcome to the forum.

PPS - post your router stats which may give a clue as to whether you can squeeze any more out of your connection.

Re: Help and advice with bb please

Your line attenuation is the limiting factor. See here for a better explanation.
Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained
Youve got a good sync for the att so I dont think you can expect any more.
Its down to you now whether you feel you could make do with the limits imposed by dropping to mid.

Thanks for that , to be honest we only use for browsing and gaming : )
None of this would be affected if I were to go to the mid package then ?

Nope, shouldnt do, the only thing that may effect your gaming is if the mrs is streaming video via iplayer or similar, but that would happen with max as well to an extent. Depends on the type of game, if its an online fps such as bf/cod then it would. My family are banned from the net when I'm gaming
