      Possible fault with BT line?

      Hi,

wondered if anyone has experienced similiar problems to myself and if so what the outcome was.

Sky are currently trying to figure out the source of the problem. I'm on Sky MAX and my line should be capable of approximately 13000kps and is configured by Sky for this speed.

Unfortunately I only get around 8000kbps. I have tried the master socket test line and that only sees improvements of maybe an extra 300kbps. Sky are sending out a new router as a final check. After that they will be referring my case to BT.

I'm going to fit a new pre filtered face plate, ADSL XTE thing but doubt this will significantly improve speeds. If the test socket only gives 8300kbps then a new faceplate is unlikely to solve the problem. To Sky's credit thus far they have taken the problem seriously and I do have a ticket number etc.

When I moved into the flat a year of so ago I did notice that the volume on my phone was significantly less than I was used to at my old place, using the same phone etc. I wonder if this is an indicator of a fault with the line, or poor connection somewhere.

Has anyone experienced anything similiar to this and how was it resolved?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to get the speeds up.

      Thanks,
      Richard

Stats for the Sagem Router are:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 297711 511763 0 0 0 11:11:20
      LAN 513097 298497 0 0 0 11:12:37
      WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8026 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 23.1 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 13.0 db

It's all a different language to me, hehe. These are the stats when connected to the master socket.

      Thanks

Re: Possible fault with BT line?

Sky told me I should be able to get 13mbps,

I am relatively near to the exchange - about 3 miles away.

Re: Possible fault with BT line?

With those stats your line is ok.

3 miles away, that quite a distance to get 13mb. Was that when you ordered they said that ?

Re: Possible fault with BT line?

3 miles is not near as far as ADSL goes, with those stats you will not get 13Mb. what you have now is about right i'm afraid. You could drop down to Mid, save 5 p/m for 8Mb.

Re: Possible fault with BT line?

I agree, you are getting the right speed for a 41dbs attenuation on ADSL2+. If you had a 'perfect' line you might get a bit more, but there are very few perfect lines. To be honest I am surprised that Sky have not told you this and are attempting to increase your speed. If you ever had 13Mbs, then your line has suffered a bad fault or has been rerouted.
