Disconnects OR connection freeze for 5-10 seconds

Hello guys, I'm not with Sky broadband but I have been reading your forum and you seem like very knowledgeable chaps that can perhaps help me out.

I'm big into gaming and have been experiencing some pretty nasty issues with my connection freezing up for a short period or completely disconnecting.

I am running on dslmax 02 home access.

How do you connect to the router, if it's wireless then this is likely to be he problem. Try a wired connection and see if that sorts it, it did mine.

Windows Vista has a 60 second bug, the wireless connection searches for a better network every 60 seconds and freezes it whislt looking, there was a turn off on XP but Vista doesn't have one.

I'm using windows XP connected through ethernet. This occurs completely randomly it could be every 5 hours or never at all but when it does happen it can ruin my game at the time.

So it's your router disconnecting to the exchange, can you post your router stats and have you looked at the log file to see whats going on?

Where is your router connected to, an extension or the maser?

      DSL Modulation Mode: G.dmt
      DSL Path Mode: Interleaved
      Downstream Rate: 7904 kbps
      Upstream Rate: 448 kbps
      Downstream Margin: 7 db

currently using an extension as the master socket is in such a place where the wireless signal wouldn't be able to reach other people using the router

*edit* not sure how to access the log file on a WAG200g

Re: Disconnects OR connection freeze for 5-10 seconds

Your SNR is quite low and may be the cause of your problems. We really need to see the stats from the test socket (this is behind the front face of the master)

Until we do then we cannot compare to see if the fault is your internal wiring (which I suspect it is).

Can you plug a standard corded phone into the test socket and listen for any noise? That may point to a line fault.

If your internal wiring is at fault and as you seem to be using quite a long extension lead I would imagine it's not helping then you could fit a couple of homeplugs, that is nearly as good as running an ethernet lead all the way.

Can you fit the router to the master and run an ethernet extension, that would be the best option, especially if you fitted a filtered faceplate to remove any chance of internal interference.

the downstream margin was at 1dB last night! but yes i'll try the master socket and see if that makes a difference, thanks.

The router will reset at anything below 7db, some handle it better than others, Test socket is the way to tell.
