      Extremely bad latency..

Hi, I've looked all over the place for info on this particular problem I'm having but can't seem to find anything. Since sept 17th midnight onwards, I've been getting really bad ping's to pretty much everything - games, surfing web, etc.
      Here are my router stats..

Connection Speed 5792 kbps 576 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 11.1 db 14.0 db

Whenever I ping bbc.co.uk or google.co.uk , my latency is in the range of 60ms with regular spikes to 400-800ms ( and very frequently being 'steady' at 350-400) . It used to be steady in the 60-100 range. I've done speed tests and they seem to be similiar to the stats above, except that my latency is often also 700ms to London ( and sometimes in the 100 range - its very unstable ).

I've attempted to ring Sky CS and completed their initial troubleshooting steps to no avail. I'm currently waiting for a call back from the next tier up of support, but would like to see if anyone out there has had a similiar problem or any idea on whats causing these latency spikes.

Thanks and let me know if you need any other information.

it seems you've been capped on both up and down stream - as to why i can't say, obviously...

unless your Max Delays have been lowered already then they might help...although, are you using wireless?...

      Re: Extremely bad latency..

thanks for the reply. I admit I'm a huge newb at this, what do you mean capped on up and down stream? I'm being limited in some way? The problem has persisted since around 16th 11 pm, and has been consistent throughout the day except for about 2-3 hours last night at peak time, where it worked fine (150 ping to a californian World of warcraft server ) then went back to its bad old ways.

This PC is wired, I do have a laptop on wireless though but it's currently not in use. I've sent a mail about reducing my Max delay already to Sky after reading about it on here a few hours ago. However my connection has been fine up until wed - nothing has changed in the house.

      Re: Extremely bad latency..

Looks like the Line has been Capped to a certain speed by Sky Or your setup isn't correct thats causing odd sync speeds and also lag spikes.
If your line isn't syncing as configured then CST will check your setup throughly.
I'm sure CST can resolve this easily. Reducing your Max Delays can help lower your ping.
