Does the main socket have a removable front? a split almost in the middle, if it does we need to see the stats from the socket behind this faceplate, it will give a good indication if there are any internal line issues.

If you have an NTE5 socket with a split face, remove the 2 screws and ease off the faceplate. This will reveal the test socket. Be careful as your extension wires should be attached to the back of your face plate. You must establish your maximum connection rate before bothering too much about speedtests.

Wired router with phone and Sky box disconnected.

      Speed test site (Wired):-

      1880kbps

Wireless speed drops off by approx 400/500 kbps ?

However, it still would appear to be a slower connection than I was getting with BT as that never fell below 2.5mbps wireless.

Will move the router onto master socket tomorrow night (Its in my Daughters room and shes asleep)

Most sites are telling me that my line supports speeds upto 3.5mbps MAX. With BT, I was getting 2.5/3 most of the time (Which is about right) and now I am only getting 2mbps (wired) with Sky.

The only other thing that has been changed is the router and I cannot see this being the cause for the slower speeds ?

I can only repeat, try it in the TEST socket, not the Master. If you don't have a Test socket please advise.

Yes, it will be the TEST socket, which is located behind the front 2 connections. (I only have one connection box in the whole house)

Thinking about it now, if I had hard wired my PC when connected to BT. I would have been getting my MAX speed of 3.5mbps based on tonights test results.

If we do establish tomorrow night that my line speed does not increase from the 2.2mbps for example with Sky, is there anything else I can try or is that just as good as it gets with the connection ?

The router is plugged into a single extension from the master socket. The extension comes from the rear of the master socket and is hard wired and cannot be moved.

Getting a bit confused, is this the extension you are referring to or the Master socket?

Line comes into Master socket. The Master socket is a double plate ADSL (Non BT). The plate has no devices connected.

However, there is a connection feed from the rear of the Master to another room where the router is now located. The feed has a female plugged section on it, that then connects to the following:-

      Sky+
      Telephone
      Router

Whats the difference between plugging into the test/master connection ?

I was getting the same download speeds when plugged into the Master socket a few days ago.
