Problem connecting to XBOX live with Netgear v2

Right first message on here hoping to bump into some genius who can help me out.

Just got Sky Broadband last night after Pipex ****** us about for ages. Anyway my laptop has connected fine an the speed is an improvement im happy. However coming to connect my xbox 360 to live is where the trouble starts. When i go to connect and enter the SSID and the pass key it wont connect to the wireless network even though its obviously working as my laptop is fine. Now am assuming I have to change some settings on the router but this is where Im stumped, really don't know what to do would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

      Cheers

      You shouldn't have to change anything in the router, just follow these steps;

      1) Plug wireless adapter into rear usb port on xbox.
      2) Switch xbox on and check that light is red on adapter.
      3) Go to System blade of dashboard.
      4) Select Network settings.
      5) Select Edit settings.
      6) Press down twice to highlight Wireless settings.
      7) Press A. Your Xbox will now scan for wireless networks.
      8) Select your network and press A. Enter your WPA security code.
      9) You should be ale to connect now.
      10) Test connection to check NAT status, let me know how you get on.

Sounds like it's a poor signal then, try changel the wireless channel in the router.

Also make sure the wireless setting in the router is set to B+G rather than auto as I've heard of this causing issues before.

Ditch the wireless, it stinks for gaming, add lots of lag to your game and you will be lucky to hold a reasonable ping.

Either run via an ethernet lead or invest in a couple of homeplugs (I should get commission on these things)

Once you reapply security you need to go back to network settings on the 360 again, choose edit settings again and highlight wireless settings, press A to scan and it should now find your network, try to connect now and you should be prompted for your WPA key.

Did you try changing the wireless channel in the router settings? 11 would be a good place to start.

Never changed the channel I'll give 11 a try it seems that I can connect to live for all of 5 minutes then it discnnects, same on here too internet connection on laptop keeps dropping after 5 mins or so says im disconnected now (clearly not) will i have to generate a wpa key?
