      Very slow speed

We changed to Sky mid from Plusnet on Wednesday and since then have had very slow speeds. The speed down is 1468.70 Kbps and speed up is 53.75 Kbps. With Plusnet we had around 4700 downstream.

Is there anything I should check before ringing Sky. I installed the router manually and it worked (didn't use the disk) so wondered if I had missed anything.

It would be useful to see your router stats, that may shed some light on the problem.

Where did you get these stats from?

There are two issues with slow speeds, the first being your 'sync speed' to the exchange (ie. the copper connection) and then Sky's / Easynet backhaul.

I'm on the same plan, and although I sync at a little under the theoretical maximum 8mb, in the last couple of days our internet connection has been incredibly slow. I've done speed tests and barely able to reach speeds of 512kb/s. Needless to say latency has also been an issue.

It would be interesting to see how many people are finding a similar issue this weekend.

This is what I got from the router site - is this what you want

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 6.02.01.00
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 4832 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 64 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

However on the Sky User speed test (and the Think broadband one) my speeds were:
      Test taken
      (up to) Download
      Speed (Kbs) Upload
      Speed (Kbs)
      14 September, 2008 06:05:04 1728 Kbs 53 Kbs
      14 September, 2008 05:19:59 1720 Kbs 54 Kbs
      11 September, 2008 02:33:45 2944 Kbs 236 Kbs

      Re: Very slow speed

Get your stats by clicking the Statistics button on the router status page. This will show the noise margin, which is important.

      Re: Very slow speed

upstream is on test speed for some reason - did you hve general connection issues at some point in the past that led you to call Sky?

Can you copy and paste the full stats shown by the Statistics button? Each part means nothing on it's own.

      Re: Very slow speed

I was with Plusnet and had no problems with connection - moved to Sky to save money. Today's results seem much better. Perhaps it was the bedding in

Router Statistics System Up Time: 41:04:52

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 64533 59365 0 340 153 38:52:34
      LAN 100M/Full 63099 66689 0 154 332 41:04:48
      WLAN 11M/54M 7382 1699 0 15 2 41:04:35
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4000 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 34 db 8 db
Noise Margin 8 db 14 db

      Do these seem reasonable?
