      Embarassingly Slow Speeds

      Just had to sign back up to our 8Mb package (which worked fine before) after Sky disconnected us after we cancelled our Sports Mix (crazy huh?) and after 8 days offline, finally reconnecting on Wednesday to find this:

      Connection Speed 128 kbps 64 kbps
      Line Attenuation 8.0 db 7.5 db
      Noise Margin 30.3 db 31.0 db

      I suspect something may not be working correctly

      Using the original V1 Netgear router, currently wireless. Not tried the under faceplate socket.

      I have a nagging feeling I may have to call sky and be fobbed off a few times, like after they messed up the connection before.

      Any other info needed/suggestions? Any help would be gratefully accepted!

      Haven't called with regard to connection issues since before I left for uni last year and my family have moved since then.

      There is not much else you can do but phone Sky and go through the trouble-shooting. You are running at a test speed.

      Before you phone, power down your router and leave it off for at least 15 mins, then reconnect, see what your stats are like then. Going by your attenuation, you must live upstairs from the exchange

      Is it wrong for me to feel slightly intimidated now? lol

      Actually, the router is just upstairs, because it doesn't perform too well downstairs, heck...it doesn't perform well upstairs either. I'm about 8ft from the router which is in another room and getting a weak signal with my wireless adapter... Which seems to pick up the church across the street on a low signal. Crazy, no?

      Would it be a sin to piggyback the lords internet?

      Will unplug the router after I've downloaded these chipset drivers :P

      You could try changing the channel on the router, start at 13 and work down. You might find it is set to 108 Auto which does not always work too well, set it to 'g'.

      Re: Embarassingly Slow Speeds

      I am having the same problem, however, my download speed is 8MB so I cant understand why its taking forever for a page to load. How do you change the channel on the router?

      Apologies for butting in to this thread.

      @Satine.
      Just log into your router by typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your browser.
      Username = admin
      Password = sky

      Now click on wireless settings on the left hand side and then you will be able to change the channel.

      @Satine
      Are you using wireless? If so how does it perform with ethernet?

      My main computer has the broadband modem connected to it using the yellow cable and my laptop is used via wireless.
