I should have said this before, so sorry. When the test socket is exposed (with the faceplate removed) are all telephone extension sockets dead?

do you have an old router? if you do try connecting this and see what it syncs at. You will not be able to get on the Internet, but you will get a sync to the exchange.

No,i wish i had. This problem has been a big one since i joined Sky end of June.I did suspect the router as when i disconnect from the net, and turn off my computer off at the socket, the internet light ( 4th light down on the router ) goes amber and flickers for a couple of minutes before returning back to green.

well there is an easy way to get a new router out of Sky.
      (1) disconnect the router compleatly and ring sky. explan that there are no lights at all on the router. They will ask you to check that the socket is switched on and to do a reset on the router. Just say yes you have done all that but still no joy (make sure it is unpluged so they cannot see it on their system). They will then send you a new router. Hopefuly that will be your problem.

Re: Frequent Disconnections with Sky BB

Well you can if you like, but this is certain to result in speed capping, auto regrades, and prob a new router.
I know what you mean about the dishonest bit, and you are to be comended, but look at it this way, if you were sitting in a call centre with a script to follow it's much easer to deal with a fault that falls into their flow chart (or whatever they use)

Many Thanks for your help,i will ponder over it,as they have capped me before which resulted in even lower down stream speed. This time it has resulted in my up stream speed being somewhat slow.Being on Sky Max i expected more speed then BT in my area.

Re: Frequent Disconnections with Sky BB

      Hi all,

Just thought i would update you all concerning my speed issue.

I contacted Sky by email, they asked me to fill in the standard form on line.
This is the reply i got from them this morning.
I have collaborated with our Customer Solution Team and can confirm your line has been configured to the best speed possible. Your line is configured to 8444Kbps and you are training in at 8320Kbps, if the downstream speed was to be increased you would then experience drop outs and your connection would be very intermittent.

Re: Frequent Disconnections with Sky BB

      Forgot to add my stats

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8320 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 7.9 db 14.0 db

My upstream has increased but the downstream has dropped very slightly.

I will now just have to wait to see how it settles down.
