Back to what it was before, I assume you have plugged the phone in and it was still OK?

      Here is what happened:

I thought i would try a corded phone as to try eliminate any problems using a cordless phone.I was off the net at the time. The phone rang, just as i was stating up my computer again, the corded phone made horrible cracking noises and we could not here the other person who was calling.I disconnected the router from the filter and the sound on the phone was fine again.

Do you get the same problem with a cordless phone? If not, it may be your corded phone that is dodgy.

Yes it could be, but to nail this one do this.
      (1) connect a wired phone to the test socket directly (no filter, no router) and dial a single digit, you should now hear nothing but a low hum, no crackle or pops.
      (2) now re-connect the filter and router and the same phone, dial a single digit, and with the router synced, you should again hear nothing.

If you do hear crackle then it looks like a line fault.

Right. Take a note of you sync speed and do a ring back test as follows.
      (1) dial 17070, after the circuit ident, press 1, when she says "please clear down" hang up. the phone will now ring. There should be no effect on your broadband.

Well thats good, looks like your line up to the test socket is fine. What are your figures (sync etc) with the router pluged into the test socket (via filter with the phone pluged in).
