      Connection dropping after two minutes

      Hi Folks,
I'll cut the intro and get to the facts:

My broadband connection was working fine for months, then suddenly, it started dropping after two minutes of rebooting the router.
This is not a wireless issue.

In the router admin, when I go to maintenance -> diagnostics I find the following:
Ping an IP address: does not work.
Perform a DNS Lookup: works fine.
      Routing Tables: works fine.

So I can't ping an ip address. But if I enter google.com into the DNS lookup, it returns an ip address. This is when the internet connection is down.

I don't want to spend another 10 minute-phone call to Sky, explain that, yes I have restarted the router, yes, I have disconnected the Sky-box. etc etc.

I have turned off UPnP, no result.

Excuse me if this as been answered before, I have a 2 minutes gap between router restarts, so I'm getting quite impatient here.

      This appears to be critical:

      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20h
      Modem Status PPP Server Down

      Any suggestions?

      Cheers!
      Oriel

      have you tried the reset
small hole on back of router, you will need a pin or sharp pencil to press the button inside the hole, should take router back to day one settings, maybe firmware has been corrupted
      hope this helps

If it is dropping every 2 minutes as you say, it looks like a router fault. There is not much more you can do except phone Sky and get a new free router. It would be easy to check if you have a spare router or modem you could hook. I keep an old St330 solely for this purpose.

I think I should, but how do I get it to contact Sky servers? I don't have any details etc.
I'm on a Mac by the way. I'm sitting here on hold for 30 minutes now.

All you have to do is get your username and password using something like James' Utility and put them into your spare router or modem in the appropriate place. I don't think it matters what OS you are using. Most UK routers are already set up with the other settings, but if not they can be obtained here -
