      my "old" backup router is running original netgear firmware, having changed the login info, its also capped
      BT Infinity

      Yep, congratulations, you look like you are the first person to be rate limited having gone over your allowance.

      Do you monitor the usage or not?

      If true, then people really need to keep an eye on their usage.

      im assuming you have your logins from your 'broken' router which you're using as comparrison? as the line isn't monitored - it's the username (which is the MAC address of the router)...

      I stand corrected, I was under the impression it was by telephone number.

      In which case, maybe we will start seeing the denial of service for those routers that have never been connected, but sold on ebay.
