      Slow browsing and download speeds.

      Hi everyone

After having some maintainance done on the master socket at home I have been unable to get the download speeds that I had a few days ago.

      Here's my stats

      System Up Time 00:03:23
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 450 743 0 127 6319 00:02:53
      LAN 10M/100M 1135 793 0 6435 400 00:03:20
      WLAN 11M/54M 102 0 0 122 0 00:03:12

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5120 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.0 db 24.0 db
Noise Margin 13.9 db 20.0 db

Can anyone tell me if these stats are as they should be? And how I can sort restore my download speed to its acceptable speed (I easily clocked speeds of about 250kbs before, and now it's down to between 50 & 80 kbs)

Re: Slow browsing and download speeds.

      You apear to be capped.

That said, based on the speed at which you are connected to the network, you should be able to download at more than 250k, should be more like 500 - 600k.

Either you are downloading from slow sites, OR you are experiencing high levels of line errors which would also show a slowdown in actual throughput.

It would be benificial to view the full line stats and history if you can access it.

This might explain the reason why have have been capped, in a way to attempt to keep the line stable.

Re: Slow browsing and download speeds.

You don't actually get capped on Connect. Your line is supposed to automatically adjust to conditions. It looks like you line problems have caused your Bras Profile to be reduced, thus reducing your throughput. If your line remains stable it should readjust, but this can take up to 3 days. You could do an official BT speedtest and post the results. Go to BT Speedtest enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the LAN MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl You can also obtain this from the router by using one of the utilities available on the forum.
