Might be able to try someone elses laptop tomorrow. I don't think it is the router though. As I've said, xbox Live is going lag free and I notice no difference. I would of thought Live is pretty bandwidth intensive, or at least needs an issue free connection, not one that can barely load web pages and has transfer rates of 4KB a second. EDIT: sorry just re-read your last post, am checking xbox Live on computer port now.

I've tried a second router (my old DG834G v2) and its the same. The xbox Live thing could be a red herring and the issue is in fact on the line, but wouldn't I at least be getting some sort of slow down or connection issue on xbox Live?

The speed through my computers reminds me of dial up just after 6pm, maybe even slower.

Just tried xbox Live in PC port of the router and have had another lag free game of Halo, healthy connection showing like other players. Light on front of router flashing constantly like it always does when playing on Live.

The only thing I can see that looks a bit suspicious is this

It may be quite innocent. Have a look and see what a netstat command with no parameters brings up. If this shows much more than 7-8 connections, there may be a problem.

Go to THIS page click the 'Direct Download' link, top right and place it in a folder on your Desktop. Run it, then return to the page and copy and paste the log into the analyser pane. This will tell you if you have any nasties.

It would be unusual to have 3 PCs infected, but if they are networked, it is possible.

Just seen your last post, it would be unusual if it were a line issue when the router is syncing high. The only time I have seen this happen is on the Connect package, not on LLU. I don't think the Xbox is very bandwidth hungry, but I may be wrong. The better half is calling me for a night-cap, so I had better go and see to her needs. See you tomorrow

No problem. It may take some time to download though. Thanks for yours and everyone elses help with this.

Re: I've Got A Head Ache and I Need Help

      This morning everything is fine!

There must be some parallels between this thread and this one and sounds like it was some exchange issue in the South East. Don't know why support didn't pick up on that, would have saved me a lot of messing about. And it goes to show you can still play xbox Live on a connection that can barely load webpages.

So thanks to Isitme and everyone else for your time. Until next time

      Paul

Indeed, at least I am anyway. How do you know that? Support certainly didn't.

Also, I've often wondered, if I was to knock on the door of the exchange and ask direct if they've got problems, would they be happy to answer me, or is that not really the done thing? Just that I could be there and back again in the time it takes Sky support to even pick up the phone.

Is there not a service status line at SKY? BT had a number to call where you'd get a recorded message updated every 15 minutes telling of any problems on any exchanges across the country, and who it might effect. Would save Sky support a lot of phone calls.
