New Sky Base Connection - Slow

Just set up a router for a friend who has had sky bb for 18 months and not used it because she did not know how to set up a wireless connection with the netgear box.

Its on base and its not connecting very fast, I know its base and capped to 2000kbps but this is all she is getting :

Downstream speed is 384kbps, attenuation is 35db, noise margin is 16.4db

Upstream speed is 252kbps, attenuation is 19.7db, noise margin is 26.5db

I upgraded the firmware on the box to the latest sky one but it was still the same.

Can someone with wisdom give me some pointers of what things to check to see if i can get it nearer the 2meg it should be.

      Thanks

Plug into test socket and try again, could very well be an internal wiring issue.

sounds like it's been auto regraded, and on adsl2+...

post full stats for proper diagnosis...

With that noise margin you do not need to plug into the test socket. It may improve the noise margin, but as it stands it will support over 3Mb without difficulty. The line is capped, you will have to phone Sky and go through the procedure to get the cap lifted to 2Mb.

      Thanks,

It was plugged directly into the master socket, tried two different cables and filters made no difference so probably capped by sky as it allways connected at the same rates after every reboot.

they'd have ONLY capped it if you'd called in...they don't do it to lines that haven't been reported having issues...

      ^^^^^^^^^^
I think the line being active for 18 months without connecting may have something to do with it. You are probably right about the auto grade. or it may even have had DLM trying to run on it, which would cause problems if the router was not plugged in.

Whatever happens it will need a call to tier 1 and troubleshooting for slow connection or it will never be fixed.
