      Weird speed loss

      Hey guys

Ive been problem free for a while but recently ive come into some speed issues in the evenings

my router wlays syncs around these stats

      DownStream Connection Speed 7712
      UpStream Connection Speed 448

      im surrently syncing at

      http://www.speedtest.net/result/314758693.png

at 12.45 AM thursday 28th august

I usually have double my down load rate

This isnt the main problem as during peak hours my downlaod goes down to 200kbs

Now this renders my connection useless and triples my ping when gaming

Ive done all the internal tests swapped filters tried master sockets etc but still the problem persits

The last time i had a problem like this it was my router dying but that was at any time

Basically how do i find out why this is happening and how to fix it

      Other useful information

      On Connect
      Wired LAN connection
      Sagem Black router
      1km from exchange
      Living In Wiltshire

      Re: Weird speed loss

Can you post your router stats (up, down, attenuation and SNR) for both periods of time? (ie. when you have good speed and when you have bad)

Also go to BT Speedtest enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl You can also obtain this from the router by using one of the utilities available on the forum.

      Re: Weird speed loss

You should be able to do a bit better, given your stats and profile. If you are not running Vista, try downloading and running TCPOptimiser from the link below.

Unfortunately, due to you being on Connect rather than LLU, you will see a slowdown later in the evening. There is nothing you or Sky can do about this. It is down to the BT network.

      Re: Weird speed loss

The slow down should not be that great for browsing, only if you are downloading should you notice it much. It is a bit difficult to say what is happening to your line as from the BT speedtest you should be getting a reasonable speed. If it is dropping a lot in the evening, then some outside factor could be effecting it. This could be anything from a washing machine starting up to a local cinema turning the AC on. Taking your stats at intervals or running something like Routerstats Lite, may give an idea of what is happening.

To be honest, if you are paying the full whack for Connect and not getting the low cost deal, then you could find a cheaper package with many other ISPs without much trouble. If you are on the 5 deal, then you would be better sticking it out till you are transferred to Sky's LLU. The only LLU provider on your exhange seems to be TalkTalk, it may be worth asking them what they can give you. My neighbour uses TT and has had no problems at all, despite the adverse criticism they received when they started up. Any other provider you went to would still be using BT's ADSLMax, which you are on now.
