If these were from the Test socket, then the problem is with your external line. Any noise on the line when you use a phone connected direct to the Test socket?
A filtered faceplate may improve what you get from the Master socket faceplate, but it will be no better than you get from Test socket. There is no way you can improve this without improving the external line.

Which of the stats look bad to you? Is it the noise margin, line attenuation or both? I don't fully understand the stats so an explanation would be great.

I don't really notice any noise on the line when using a telephone.

If it is indeed the external line then do I have to pay BT to sort it out?

Re: Sky BB Max but connected at 8Mbps?

The noise margin is low indicating that you are connecting as fast as the line will allow. Your attenuation should allow a connection speed of 12-14Mb on a good line but faults on the line are preventing it. I say faults, but this may not be strictly correct, it may be the general condition of the line. Everything deteriorates with age even copper wires and joints.

Unfortunately if there is no apparent noise on your line, BT will do nothing about it. If your line was really bad Sky may ask them to do a check, but I doubt if they will consider your line bad enough for this. Bear in mind that if you call out BT and they do not find a fault, you are liable to be charged a large amount. You may have to be happy with what you have, considering it is way faster than the average for Max.

Ok, thank you. I will just stick with what I have as it is very satisfactory.

Re: Sky BB Max but connected at 8Mbps?

just wondering if this is ADSL2+ or normal ADSL as on the max aswell.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 22.5 db
      Noise Margin 5.3db 14.0 db

done some remedial work on the wiring in the house and also removed the filters i had as forgot i had the filtered faceplace ....and noticed the noise margin dropped from 7.2 on the downstream to what it is now so wondered if that would affect max speed available to me

      Looks like your on G.dmt.
It also looks like your line may not go any higher than what it's sitting on at the minute.

Re: Sky BB Max but connected at 8Mbps?

after editeding my stats i found a site that will give your max speeds based on att and noise and to my surprise i found if i was on adsl2+ i could get 11.6MB speeds so wonder if would be worth the call to sky BB to test this theory . not sure if should put the site as new here but can edit later if allowed to :-)

Re: Sky BB Max but connected at 8Mbps?

You have the same attenuation as me (38 when on G.DMT), but on ADSL2+ mine goes to 41.5 and I imagine yours will do the same.

This may give you a slightly higher download (I currently have 9551 Kbps) but you may get stability problems.

Re: Sky BB Max but connected at 8Mbps?

hi well since i reposted the stats the noise margin has risen to 7.1 ...think thats because the router is turned off at night and then turned on early morning when quieter...but will see what sky say when they reply to enquiry as to which ADSL i am on
