New to Sky Broadband / File Sharing On Network

We've just transferred over from Virgin today, the internet is up and running on the main computer - and the internet is working on the laptop we've got too.

However, we used to have a network on the Virgin system, now it just won't let us set up a network. When we've followed the instructions to set up the network, neither computer shows the other computer.

On Virgin, the laptop picked up the desktop straight away.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Try turning off the firewalls on the computers temporarily while setting up. Once the network is established firewalls will adapt to the new connections.

Re: New to Sky Broadband / File Sharing On Network

      Terminus,

Could you elaborate a little please? Only using an alternate router should not stop the two devices from seeing each other as the network works completely differently. The only part the router plays is by supplying the IP's and DNS Server IP's.

XP has been known for having a slight glitch with workgroups where sometimes you lose a machine due to a marker being set against the connection in the registry. Now I dont suggest you go tampering in there, but if you could give us some more details on what your setup is, and what you have tried (eg firewalls turned off, renaming workgroups etc) then I am sure we can get you up and running again
      Regards,

      Tom (HSNetwork)
