You're not capped (ref your noise margin). In any case, capping reduces the sync and hence the throughput - not just the throughput. You're probably thinking of traffic shaping or port throttling, neither of which happen with Sky LLU.

Slow throughput compared to sync can be down to a number of reasons. The most common are:
      • overloaded test servers
      • poor wireless connection
      • incorrect TCP/IP settings
      • very high line errors

      Re: Have they capped me???

I have a similar problem. Recently switched from BT using a DG834N router, to Sky Max using DG934G. I was aware that line attenuation would limit my download speed, but I still went for the 'Max' option to get the increased upload speed.

Problem is that with BT I was getting around 7Mb/s, but with Sky I am getting 5Mb/s. It is the same phone line so the only difference is my different routers, and how BT and Sky differ at the exchange.

These are the stats from the DG934G:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5632 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 47 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db 12 db

Why am I not getting the same speeds as with BT?

My wireless connection seems fine (4 or 5 bars).

Any idea how I check the other settings you mention?? I checked my speed this morning around 7:30ish and it was 0.3Mbps - router stats were pretty similar to what I mentioned above.

Please tell me i don't have to contact Sky Support...

Doesn't mean much I'm afraid. It's signal quality that matters not strength.

All the info you need is elsewhere on the forum. In brief:

      • try a wired connection comparison
      • if that shows wireless is poor, either go wired or experiment with different channels/router position etc
      • use more than one test server for comparison and make sure they're good ones e.g. Skyusers
      • read the second sticky in my signature

If your sync is 5632kbps but your throughput is only 300kbps (you sure its not 300kBps - but even then it's still low) then it's one of the issues I pointed out earlier - nothing to do with Sky.
