Which way to face router? wireless.....

Kind of a dumb question...but We have set up a local network with a few other my other neighbours via wireless and and just wondering with the Sagem sky router I have, is there any particualr way in which if should face to get optimum wireless strengh? Should the router face side on etc or straight forward for the best signal. Many thanks.

Depends on conditions really. If i recall the router had a built in aerial, also changing the channels will help awell

Re: Which way to face router? wireless.....

Every wireless device will have a signal profile which the manufacturer will have in the form of a map showing signal strength by distance from the router - Looks a bit like a weather map showing isobars.

However few manufacturers will publish these as the information is proprietory and could be used in a "My wireless is better than your wireless" type argument.

Some manufacturers will publish generic instructions such as "Mount Vertically" but I have never seen anyone disclose the best direction for improved signal strength. This is probably because in real life things like walls get in the way of the theoretical range.

Practical advice - I suspect it won't make a scrap of difference but empiricism is everything - Try it out, measure signal strength, turn through 90 degrees repeat three more times - See which gives you the best results. My guess - you won't see any measurable difference but post results back here please.
