      Lightning Have Hurt My Broadband!!

      Hey Ppl

      i wonder if anyone can help?....

      i was enjoying a very nice and stable connection on wednesday morning

      then it got to wednesday evening and had a huge lightning storm and it effect my broadband alot..

      old problems have come back! and im not happy ive emailed sky 3 times and phoned 3 times

      1) phone cut broadband problem is back
      2) very high noise margin
      3) been capped at 1792kbps....


      heres before and after stats

      please help

      Looks like your phone line or router has been zapped. Only BT can fix your line, but if you have one, try another router. This could help confirm that the line is faulty.

      but spoke to southern yestuday (my phone provider) they said it will be 85 quid for a engineer!

      This is a problem when you have a non-BT phone provider, it is an extra hurdle in the link to getting it fixed. I would have thought if your phone is not performing as it should it is up to the provider to fix it, but if it only cuts out when you are using broadband, they will probably do nothing without being paid.

      All you can do is keep at Sky and hope they will do something, but you must understand Sky are not responsible for maintaining your line and will probably pass you back to your phone provider. I am afraid you are between a rock and a hard place.

      i feel like lobbing the router out the window! its doing my head in but my line is crackly but they did a line test at southern and they said it was fine they said there was some kind of 85 quid charge....

      Plug a corded phone into the Test socket on it's own, no router. Do a test by phoning 17070, option 2. Do you still hear the crackle? If you do, then your supplier is obligated to fix it at no charge to you.
