netgear wg111t wireless adapter advice please

Hi
I am not a computer wizard and need some advice. I had a tidy around in the study, hoovering behind the desk, moving wires etc and now I can no longer get wireless on my laptop(is this a coincidence?) but have done so for the last year ( I have the white netgear router).

when checking network available on the laptop our SSID is not there so I am assuming its not the laptop.

On my main computer I clicked the netgear wizard and it just flashes up for a couple of seconds.
As I say I am not a computer person atall and would really appreciate some help
many thanks

Re: netgear wg111t wireless adapter advice please

Is the wireless light on on your router? If it is on, go into the router's wireless settings and try different channels. Start with 13 and work down.

If the light is not on, again go into the router settings and check that 'Enable wireless access point' is ticked. If it is ticked, phone Sky and report that your router's wireless has stopped working.

If none of these help and the router wireless is shown as working, try re-installing the drivers for the Wireless adapter.

Re: netgear wg111t wireless adapter advice please

on the usb netgear the blue light flicks on and off as for the router the same 4 lights are on as always.
as I said I am not too good with computers apart from surfing the net, where do i find the settings?? I have gone onto the wizard for the netgear usb but flickers off in a couple of seconds, so i think it is something to do with that

Re: netgear wg111t wireless adapter advice please

Go to the Add/Remove programs on your PC and remove the Netgear applications, then reinstall it.

You can get to the router settings by typing http://192.168.0.1 in your browser, then admin for the username and sky for the password. Click the Wireless settings link on the left to enter the settings. If you have not done this before they are unlikely to have changed. You will see a drop down box for changing the channel

Re: netgear wg111t wireless adapter advice please

I had similar problems to you with that adapter, it does not like Vista and Netgear do not yet have a fix for it. If you do a Google search for it you will see many problems.

Mine worked for a few months before it went t1ts up. Got a different adapter and all worked fine. The Netgear one worked on anything except Vista.

Get rid of that usb adapter, had it myself and had nothing but trouble.
Now using a PCI one, works a charm.
