Question 21CN this month in my exchange-what does this mean for me?

As title really, I've just checked on SamKnows and apparently my exchange says "21CN WBC status: RFS date set : 18/08/2008".

So I was wondering what implications (if any) this had for me?

I'm currently on the Sky Max up to 16Mb package, but unfortunately I only get about 5.5 meg.

      Thanks.

Will probably mean very little to be honest, just means that BT are running new connections from their backbone to your exchange and changing some hardware in the exchange itself. Doubt if it will impact your connection much.

It will have no effect on you, unless one of the engineers bumps against you connection while doing the work.

It just means that the dinosaur called BT is catching up on what many other ISPs have been doing for years, supplying an up to 16/24Mb service.

Ah-so no chance of me getting any more than my 5.5 meg then?

Incidentally, I'm out of contract now, so I rang 02 to enquire about BB and they said I would get 7/8 Meg....

Did you get and fit the ADSL faceplate as you intended? Given the last stats you posted, you should connecting at very near 7Mb, which would give you a download speed of about 6Mb. I doubt very much if O2 could better that by much. If you do decide to change, try to get them to put it in writing, but I doubt they would. They will then start giving you the ' Oh it depends on your line Sir'.

      I didn't do the faceplate.

Until you just mentioned it, I had totally forgotten about it.

What a complete twit I am.

I'll get on that as my next task.

[Edit] - Having said that, if I'm only going to get another 0.5MB (I get 5.5 now), it hardly seems worth the effort?

It is just not the extra speed you get, but better stability. In my opinion every broadband user should have an ADSL faceplate, it would negate 90% of all problems experienced through noisy lines and make this forum a much quieter place( no pun intended)

      Thanks.

The thing is, the connection is rock solid and completely stable, it's just the low speeds that concerned me.
