      You can get them to fit to an extension, but when used like that all it does is replace the loose filter, which in your case would be no advantage. Better on the Master.

      the ring wire was for the really old pre-cordless phones

      disconnecting terminal 3 at master should be enough but i would disconnect all extentions to make sure of no interfeerance at all

      The ring wire is not just for old phones, plenty of modern ones need it. It's just that with BB micro filters it is reproduced at each filter.
      With extension sockets, there is no need to remove the ring wire (or any other wire) because it is not connected through the micro filter. In fact the only connection that needs removing is "3" at the master.

      When you fit a filter faceplate, you need to connect "3" because you no longer have micro-filters and any phones that need the ring wire will not ring without it.
