    how fast should i be going

    This is a discussion on how fast should i be going within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; roughly what should i be download a file at with a downstream of 2528kbps?...

      how fast should i be going

      roughly what should i be download a file at with a downstream of 2528kbps?

      About 300 - 400 kbs sounds about right.

      im downloading at 259 - 270 kb/s

      I have sync at around 4.5Mbps and download from http between 400-500KB/sec...

      As IANTE suggests its entirely down to the download method and how busy the server is at the time, as you are probably aware a http file will normally be much quicker than a torrent unless it is very well seeded.

      well i tried both links you gave me monday

      10mb - 256kb/s
      100mb - 256kb/s

      Is the 2528 the sync speed reported by the router? if it is, allowing for overheads, your speeds look about right

      yeah 192.168...etc says a downstream of 2528kbps so about 89% it allows i think?

      so is 256kb/s right?

      Yes that is fine your overheads amount to 19%, leaving 81% for data. anything above 80% is fine.
