      SMTP problems

I have just signed up to sky broadband after being with Nildram for 5 years.

My problem is that I have a wireless IP camera that on motion detection sends emails to my gmail account.

This used to be configured to send using smtp.nildram.net but since swapping to sky it doesn't send the emails.

I have put the following SMTP server:-

      smtp.tools.sky.com

      My logon name is [username]@sky.com

When it tries to send an email now I never receive it. It gets an error saying TLS or something must be issued before sending, however I can't do this as the webcam is generating the smtp commands.

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

      Thanks
      Mark

If you sre unable to configure the webcam application to use an SSL/TLS connection then you will need to apply for a Skyuser MTP account.

I complete the form you link and no-one has come back to me saying this has been setup.

I did get an email saying that if you still needed I had to re-fill out the form including forum username so I did but still no reply.

Does it normally take at least 1 week?

Any ideas who to chase or do I have to complete the form for a 3rd time?

      Thanks

I have just set this up for you and emailed you the details.

PS You didn't supply the password so I have sent you one that we have supplied.

      Re: SMTP problems

Got my account details now and have configured my webcam to send using the following:-

Server: mail.skyusermail.com with my username and password

I don't seem to be receiving any mails tho so I have trying a test from telnet. This is what I am typing:-

      1. telnet smtp.skyusermail.com 25
      2. helo mailhost
      3. mail from:username@skyusermail.com
      4. rcpt to:joe@bloggs.com

Step 4 responds with "No such user here" when I try a valid email address.

Do you have any ideas why this is as step 4 should be able to send to any external address shouldn't it?

      Thanks
      Mark

      Re: SMTP problems

      Hi

As sent by email, I have no idea if we have telnet enabled or not, I ain't that techie.

Can you send an email via Outlook? The ones I sent to you were sent using your login credentials that we have set up for you on the SMTP.

      3. mail from:username@skyusermail.com
We don't have you setup like that, infact I don't think we have any @skyusermail.com address's set up (I don't know if it would make a difference or not) - it should be:

      yourusername@yourdomain.com

Our server is only setup with the basics, ie you authenticate against the username and password that you have supplied to us, to allow you to send email, from your Sky Broadband account.
