      Changing ISP to sky help

At the moment i am with plusnet up to 8mb broadband (which i have to say has been brilliant). I am looking at changing to Sky mid broadband package.
Basically i was wondering what sort of speeds i could look to get?

      My info.
      Up Stream Down Stream
      288 (Kbps.) 2272 (Kbps.)

      Noise Margin Attenuation
      Upstream 29 dB 24 dB
      Downstream 38 dB 63 dB

I am 1.37km to the exchange

      Thanks in advance.

Re: Changing ISP to sky help

Compared to the Sky routers, your stats appear a bit strange. If I am reading them correctly, converted to the Sky format they would be -
Connection speed 2272 Down 288 Up
      Attenuation 63dbs Down 24dbs Up
Noise margin 38dbs Down 29dbs Up
Correct me if I am wrong!

I have to think that the stats are being calculated in a completely different way. For the connection speed, the attenuation looks about right, but the noise margin looks far too high. I wonder if your router is reporting the ratio rather than the margin. In theory a noise margin that high would support a speed in excess of 10Mbps, even a perfect line with an attenuation of 63 would never get that. Without plugging a Netgear/Sagem router into your line a straight comparrison is hardly possible.

If you are on Plusnets up to 8mb, ADSLMax, this is equivelent to Sky's Connect package and most users moving from Connect to Mid get a small increase in speed. You can be sure you will get at least the speed you have at present at a lower cost.

Re: Changing ISP to sky help

I have requested plusnet to put me on adsl max which i think they have done. My router stats are now downstream 7616kbps upstream 448kbps my noise margin has changed to downstream 10db and upstream 23db.
The problem is though when i check my speed with a speedtester it reports download speed 1902kbps and upload 383kbps.
That shouldn't be like that should it?

      Cheers

If you have just changed to ADSL Max, you will have just started the 10 day training period. Have a look Here for instructions on how to proceed.
