      Reduced Downstream speed

I live less than a mile or so from the local exchange yet Sky have reduced the download connection speed from 16MB to 10 and now 3MB

My download speed has gone down considerably from when I signed up. After a lot of troubleshooting with the BB Technical team, I was sent a new router (Sagem) to replace the Netgear one.

I have not seen any change in performance (it may be more stable- connection so to go up and down) even when connect to the Master BT socket.

I still do not believe that the problem was the router. I have noticed that when surfing or downloading (actually when doing with any p2p download -I cannot open up a browser), I get a lot of noise on the line.

I called bt and they tested the line. According to them everything was ok. The noise seems to be better when the filters are out and I get a dialing tone.

I have replaced the filters with new ones as I suspected these early on.

Any directions to get this resolved will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

      Deff

The basic stats from your router should be sufficient. Open the router setting by typing http://192.168.0.1 (or simply click this link) put in the user - admin and password - sky and click the Statistics button. Copy and paste this to the forum.

      Re: Reduced Downstream speed

I don't think Sky are wholly to blame. Your attenuation of 37dbs indicates that you are much more than a mile from the exchange, more like 3+Kilometres. This would allow a connection speed of 9-10 Mbps. It is possible that BT have rerouted your phone line and increased it's length, but I am not sure. If you previously were able to connect at 16Mbps, you attenuation would need to be 30dbs or under, which would require a much shorter line. Your noise margin indicates that your line could be capable of about 5.5Mbps, which is very low for the attenuation, so I suspect there is a line fault somewhere.

There is a good chance that DLM is at work on your line, but the stats do not indicate that it is. To be absolutely sure that your internal wiring is not faulty, you should remove the faceplate of the Master socket and plug the filter and router into the Test socket. Take your stats from there and see if there is any change.

I would also advise using your DG834GT router and obtain the detailed stats from it, using something like the utility found in MelsNotes Justscroll down, click the 'Get detailed Stats' button and put in the username/password of the router. Post the results here.
