      upgrading from 8MB to 16MB

Hey guys, according to samknows.com my exchange is enabled for ADSL Max but when I phoned to order Sky (couple of months ago) they said I wouldn't be able to get the 16Mb so we settled with the 8Mb.

I'm about 300 metres from the exchange and have the following stats....

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 15.1 db 14.0 db

I read somewhere (probably here tbh) about someone phoning them and getting them to change them from ADSL to ADSL Max so I'm wondering if my attenuation is low enough for that?

Basically I'm just trying to find out if its worth me phoning up and asking for them to change it. (but why wouldn't they have put me on it two months ago when I ordered it?)

      Thanks.

P.S The Sky ADSL2 Line Speed Checker says I should get between 16-24Mb.
      SkyUser - ADSL2 Line Speed Checker - upto 24mb

Re: upgrading from 8MB to 16MB

How are you plugged into the tel line with your router, how many sockets are there on the line and do you suffer any noise? If you are that close to the exchange and have been told your line won't take full speed something must be up with either your line to the exchange or your internal wiring.

Re: upgrading from 8MB to 16MB

Ok, via samknows that is how the crow flys (straight line distance) that isnt the correct distance from the exchange.

      We need to know..
How many tel points do you have in your home?
Have you tried using the Bt master or test socket? (If not try them)
Is there any extension cables in use (By extension cables I mean Telephone extension cables)

Judging by the attenuation of 22.0 db in theory you should be able to get upto 16MB although this is not guranteed. Try the above and see how things go.
