Attenuation and Noise don't add up

Over the past few weeks, I have had some gradually reducing connection speeds but more of a puzzle is the Noise Margin which by all comments in this forum suggests I should be dropping connection and not re-connecting.

I used to have a Line Attenuation of 63db and a Noise Marging anywhere between 7 and 9 db and a connection speed of 3600kbps.

Over the past 2 - 3 months this has changed - I now have a connection speed of 3070kbps BUT the Line Attenuation is 63.5db and the Noise Margin is fluctuating between 0.9db and 1.8.

I have checked for anything that may be giving of RF and tried isolating everything to see no significant change, I have tried the Master Socket, again to no advantage - The Bell wire has been removed for a couple of years.

      Any ideas ?

Re: Attenuation and Noise don't add up

I think you are on DLM. The upload speed and the fact that you are on ADSL2 indicate this. Unfortunately, if reports in the forum are anything to go by, things will only get worse before they get better. With the very low noise margin your line is generating a lot of errors. DLM will increase the noise margin (thus reducing the speed) until the line stabilises. It could be that you will be one of those that benefit from DLM, but dont count on it.

Re: Attenuation and Noise don't add up

The only way to know for sure is to phone Sky, they will tell you how many days it has to run. From reports on the forum, it seems to be anything between 8-21 days.
