      Are these stats ok?

I live almost in the exchange. It is in the same road about 200 mtrs away.

I have trawled through this site reading all that I can and I think if I understand it right, Higher noise ratios are better than lower ones?

      Is that right?

I seem to have quite low ratios?

I get good download and upload speeds. (I am sure I could improve with better wiring and a new face plate)

      My stats are:

      UP Stream Down Stream
      Attenuation 12 5.1
      Noise 8.8 16

      I am on ADSL2.

Nothing wrong with your stats, why are you asking? Max speed on Sky is up to 16Mb, what speed are you seeing on downloads?

      Re: Are these stats ok?

I have probably misunderstood what I have read on this board. I got the impression that a low noise ratio was bad!

My download speeds seem to be fine. I can achieve 1.8mb download speed on a regular basis.

Sort of - all other things being equal. See the first sticky in my signature.

The router will (providing your connection is uncapped by Sky) sync at the highest rate it can, up to the limit of the package you're on, for a minimum noise margin of 6.9db.

You are at the limit for your package and your noise margin is higher than 6.9db. That's very good.

      Re: Are these stats ok?

So, why would I have a very low noise margin if my stats are so good?

I am only about 200 mtrs from the exchange.

You don't have a very low noise margin.

Whilst you might expect your noise margin to be even higher than that considering your attenuation, there are many reasons why it is the figure it is e.g.:

      • you have a noisy line
      • the router is misreporting due to the very low attenuation.

Does it matter? You're connecting at the max for your package (higher than that actually) and have a noise margin higher than the default.
