Exclamation Rampant Disconnections/Loss of Synch (not a noob!)

      Hi Friends,

I have had Sky Broadband since late 2006 and have been experiencing intermittent service since about 5 months after this. Please be sure I have read as much as I can regarding these problems so I'm not posting without reading. I have also had extensive calls to Tier 3 who are as much help as small child.

The connection seems to drop out every 4 hours or so, sometimes returning instantly, sometimes requiring a reboot. I changed routers to a Rangemax but obviously this wasn't the problem. I have changed all microfilters and tested it in the master socket and extensions as well as the test socket. The problem remains. In the test socket, I do receive a faster connection, but this is not the issue. UPnP is off.

I am wondering if anyone might know what the problem might be, as I am not too far from the exchange and my stats are not bad...

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6176 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 19.0 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 14.0 db

BT report no faults on the line and I for the life of me cannot solve this problem. Can someone please assist me? Thank you.

Since launch I was in an extension which was half the speed I posted, the stats shown are from the test socket. I am currently in the master socket with no ethernet, however previously in the extension, I was in the ethernet connecting to a PC.

On Max, with that attenuation you should be getting about 10mb. As for the disconnections, I have absolutely no idea.

if you have the the V1 router, post your detailed stats (if you have not used the router in a while see link in my sig for detailed stats, if you have used there has been an update and you will have to use this to get the detailed stats)

the detailed stats give a better indication of whats happening on your line and may help to work out the problem

Re: Rampant Disconnections/Loss of Synch (not a noob!)

you do have a few errors, but not sure if they would cause a drop out from the exchange(unless you have noise spikes, longer stats would show if it was the case)

      are you wireless ?

Does any of the drop outs happen with a phone call being made or received?

Your upload seems to indicate that you are on Mid, not Max as shown in your profile.

If these stats were taken from the TEST socket, not the master, then it appears your line has a fault, no matter what BT say.

Re: Rampant Disconnections/Loss of Synch (not a noob!)

Thanks everyone so far, this seems to be a struggle! I am wireless yes and the connection does not seem to drop out when phone calls are made or received. I spoke to Sky again a few hours ago and she said something about changing the latency. She advised she will call back around 7 to see if the connection has dropped since then.

These are new stats after she tinkered with things... (I am supposed to be on max)
