      Moving from BT to Sky

      Hello everyone.

I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with.

I have been with BT Broadband for a couple of years but am now moving in with my girlfriend who uses Sky Broadband and I would like to switch over to Sky also.

      My questions are:

      1. What do I need to do to switch over?

      2. My girlfriend has her PC set up in her office and uses a Netgear router connected by a yellow cable to her PC but I would like to be able to use my laptop downstairs wirelessley - my laptop has wirless capability.

      3. What would I need to do to start using my email accounts with Sky, my girlfriend thinks it's just a matter of creating a new email address and adding it to her account but I'm not so sure it's that simple. I'm a bit concerned about the change over because I have a website with a support email on it which I have configured with Thunderbird/BT.

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

      Thanks

Re: Moving from BT to Sky

      1. Tell BT you wish to leave.
      2. All Sky routers are wireless capable, you get a card with the router that tells you the Router SSID and network key, type in the key in capital letters, no numbers.
      3. You can create new sky.com email addresses linked back to the main account or if you have another email/ domain provider with their own mail servers you can continue use those or tell sky email to pick those emails up to and pass them to you through one account.

Re: Moving from BT to Sky

You are moving in with your GF who has Sky Broadband and you also want Sky broadband? Why not share the GFs? Apart from anything else Sky will not supply more than one connection to an address, even if there are two phones lines. ie. You will not be able to get Sky BB, so you don't need a MAC, you only have to give BT notice of leaving.

There should be no problem setting up email addresses.

Re: Moving from BT to Sky

Hello isitme and thanks for answering my questions

Yes that's what I'm after - configuring my laptop and email accounts to the g/f's Sky Broadband account.

I was just worried it wouldn't be simple to configure the emails with Sky.

Would I have to install something on my laptop then???

You can set up your emails accounts online and then in something like Thunderbird using the relevant settings, you can both have different addresses if you want.
