Re: what is a good noise margin?

To answer your question directly: as large as possible all the time. In practice this means 7dB ish and not dropping too much at night so as to cause disconnects.
All sorts of things can effect it, that old chestnut, internal wiring being the most likely. A swing of 9 to 5 is quite high, do you have an overhead line?

      @ Djpower.
With an attenuation of 21dB you should be on ADSL2+. Your margin is not over high so I cannot predict what speeds you would get. Have you phoned Sky (I bet you have and got nowhere). DLM should see you right.

Re: what is a good noise margin?

DLM = SKY'S CURSE ON YOUR LINE in other words you switch your router off during dlm you will basically kill your connection to a unbearable speed... some ppl have been getting as low as 160kbps

Re: what is a good noise margin?

Yeah street lighting can cause problems. Next time you see a BT/Openreach guy up the pole, just ask him to have a quick look at your line connections while he is there.
I am not suggesting there is anything wrong at all, but it does no harm to give them the once over now and then.
