Need help getting my speed back up.

I've been on Sky Broadband (Max) for about a year now, and from the start we've been having speeds of around 400kbps, however this was purely because the phone line was running through several extension sockets (out of necessity at the time) before reaching the router.

So a couple of days ago I finally got around to changing the setup so that the router was plugged directly into the master socket, and this allowed me to achieve speeds of around 2300kbps. Which was great.

However, the speed has now dropped down to a constant 768kpbs down/412 kbps up. I'm wondering if this is because for a long time the speed had been synced to around 400kbps, and it's been set back down to that? Any help on getting the speed back up would be appreciated.

Here's my current line stats for you:

Ah, I see. Figured it would be something like that.

So what's the best way of sorting this out with Sky? By that I mean, what's the best number to ring/explanation to give, that won't result in me hanging on the line for 2 hours listening to someone try to convince me I have a virus and ending up with no result.

Re: Need help getting my speed back up.

IF it's still ongoing then nothing can be done until complete - which can take up to 10 days...just don't turn the router off as this will drag it out but once complete CST can reset the line if needed...

Yeah I read about that bit, but that's the part I'm going to have trouble with.

At the moment we're having issues in my area with power brown-outs, they happen about once or twice a day. So I really have no control over when my router restarts. Thanks for the help anyway.

DLM or not, it may be worth phoning Sky and ask them if they can increase your speed, there is a chance that with your previous poor wiring you have been capped. If you are in the DLM program, they will tell you and you will just have to wait it out. If you are not they should be able to raise the cap a bit. DLM seems to be getting blamed for everything at the moment.

Re: Need help getting my speed back up.

I just gave them a ring, and I am in the DLM program up until the 21st. So I'll just have to wait it out and see what my speed ends up being after that.

If it's then under 2300kbps I'll get in touch with them again and check it's not capped. I know I can get 2300kbps, and that's about the most I can really expect with my attenuation anyway.

      The help is greatly appreciated.
