Sky seem to think a spare router always does the trick i've got a stack of Netgear V1 routers pilled up, gathering dust in the shed. Technically speaking your line should be able to support about 7-8 meg. But nevertheless try the new router and see if it makes a difference.

      ^^^^^^
Yes I think Sky must obtain the routers very cheaply, the rate seems to be 5 routers = 1 call to BT.

Lily - Can you try plugging your phone and router into the Test socket and take your stats while making a call?

Re: Slow speeds since connecting to sky.

      All,

My router has always been plugged directly into the test socket for this troubleshooting process! I have changed filters, robooted everything I can reboot, changed phones etc etc. When a call is made or recieved the router disconnects, reconnects then the line attenuation typically drops to 42db, the noise margin increases to around 12db and the line speed increases, usually to 4000kbps (approx). When the call ends the router disconnects again, reconnects again back to the now usual line attenuation of 49db, etc etc.

Sky emailed me yesterday morning to say this was being passed to the BT Escalations Team. Since then the BT website reveals a fault as being opened and completed yesterday morning. However my line stats have not changed at all - and phonecalls still disconnect the router. I have emailed sky again, but have not yet heard back. Sob!

I suppose it serves me right for wanting cheap ADSL! I was so spoilt before!

better off calling, especially if you're on the Escalations que as they don't get the emails...

Re: Slow speeds since connecting to sky.

An update. Thanks to IAmNotTheEnemy, I called up and spent another hour+ on the phone but finally spoke to a very nice lady who finally admitted that the 'mysterious techie people hidden in a back room' agreed that there must be a fault at the exchange - she wouldn't say what they thought it was but that all the technical input from various sources I had used were wrong (she sounded quite pleased about that).

She said it would be chased up, and I was given another ticket number. Oh and she says I am not yet on that dreaded DLM (I think she was trying to cheer me up).

She promised me the famous call back within 24 hours..........phew, this is tiring and frustrating....

Thanks to all for reading, contributing and helping me to stay reasonably sane

Re: Slow speeds since connecting to sky.

As I suggested earlier. Maybe Sky techs should be given 'Reading Sky User forums' as a part of their training. I am sure the few who contribute here benefit from the experience of other users.

Don't wait too long on the call back, 24.1 hours is enough. If you have a ticket number that is half the battle, but too often users find that the ticket gets closed with nothing visible being done.

Thanks Isitme, on my own I wonder if I am being too pushy!

When the tech said that I wasn't on DLM yet, I commented that a number of 'skyuser' posters were less than thrilled with it, she agreed! Maybe she takes a peak.....

I don't think there is anything wrong with being 'pushy' when you are trying to get something fixed, as long as you push politely.
