Not quite getting the speed I expect

Just moved over to Sky from Tiscali. With my previous ISP i regularly reached 7.1MB but on Sky it seems to have settled down a slightly slower 6.5mb which is annoying seeing as I am on Sky MAX.

It did briefly spike at 14MB that seems to have been a momentary flash in the pan.

These are my stats from the router while plugged into the test socket:

      16379 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.5 db 7.3 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 16.5 db

I am only 500m from the exchange so i would have though that i would have achieved a much higher speed.

      Any advice apreciated.

Also i did notice when failing to set up another router (damn you sky) that it is on GDMT and is interleaved (IIRC). Seems a bid odd given my low attenutation.

Though i having said i seem to remember it being much higher figure yesterday (possible in the 30's, maybe i imagined that, my house certainly hadnt moved

Your line is set at 16mbps, so it is not G.DMT despite what the other router tells you. It is set to ADSL2+. Also, All Sky Broadband lines are set to Interleave. this is the standard for Sky broadband.

If that is the speeds you are getting in your test socket, then clear your browser history and run an antivirus/spyware scan on your computer to ensure that there is nothing using up your bandwidth on your computer.

With your attenuation you should get more! If you have not already done so, unless you are on Vista, run the TCP Optimiser from the link below. It is almost guaranteed to increase your speed and it is free

Sorry, but if you use it correctly, there is no way it can reduce your speed. Try the DrTCP link below, many prefer it to Optimiser. Take the Tweak test 11 first, this will advise what is wrong with your connection. If neither of these improve your speed, then your settings are OK and something else is harming your connection.

Note that neither of the tweakers work with Vista!
