      Sorry, I just presumed they did as every person I've talked ot from tech support (about 10 ) have had a middle eastern accent.

      I am simply saying they should at least know how to support a few of the popular branded home-based routers such as Netgear, Belkin, D-Link etc.
      They would if Carling ran Sky Broadband. What we have to remember here, is percentages, technical people (or people who know what to do with ADSL / Broadband Routers etc) are a minority in the grand schema of things. I would guess probably less than 5% of Sky's customers (opinion not fact) are technical, the other 95% just want a connection that works, no need to use anything else other than what Sky send out.

      That 95% also would be Sky's target audience. The last thing Sky want is technical people who can suss when something isn't right, or doesn't work, knows how to hack FW etc etc - It's those people that probably do not fit into Sky's business model.

      Remember, when Sky broadband launched there was no compensation from Sky for the gamers amongst us, but Sky adapted. Maybe the fact that Sky have not acted on people using their own routers is because in the whole picture, there are very few of us. And also we are less likely to ring Support, hence saving Sky money and resources.

      I suppose really we should split this thread off, though as we gone way OT. (my fault I guess)

      I'm not even going to get into this argument again, I might go off on one again be fair to say I do take some comments made by people on here offensive...not all Sky tech are just reading off a script. ever though some might be using this a stop gap after Uni? Or are far over-qualified for the job but just want an easy life?

      I could quite happily go through every setting on your machine but end of the day - if it went belly up who'd get the blame? Me!!

      hence there being a strict remit for support - including support for the Sky router and none other...

      im not being racist but half the indian techs you cant understand!!

      its nice to talk to someone english who actually understands you! and therefore can help you

      half of the indians remind me of the isp sketch of fonejacker

      "would you like our internet service providings and switch from your current providings" cracks me up every time!

      i actually did get a rather helpful guy from cornwall once! that was on the fone to me for over an hour and he didnt get off the phone until i was satisfied! now thats what i expect

      I understand that people have differing viewpoints, but please don't lets take the personal route.

      We are all here to help each other out and trading views on people's origin is of no help whatsoever. Yes there is a language barrier sometimes, but that's the same with most companies. BT, Tuxedo, etc etc

      but they dont seem to consider the fact that some people might not understand them easy

      Now that I cannot disagree with, but its not our call though. However it is a fact of life. But at the end of the day, the people in CST are just doing a job, nothing more nothing less and so we cannot blame them. All they are doing is the same as me and you, working so that they can pay the bills.

      and that i cant disagree with! their was one occaison where i got someone from mumbai that spoke fluent english i was amazed! and he was helpful
      didn't even read the script
