There is nothing wrong with your connection as it stands, but a bit of insurance never does any harm. For good long term stability nothing beats a filter faceplate, router close to the master socket, and a short connecting cable, router to filter. You could then use a network cable to connect router to pc, or mains adaptors.
I know you will gain no extra speed, but your noise margin will increase and as ADSL signals are very weak at the best of times, every db helps

One week on and slower speed

Does the time of day that you run any speed test affect the results, or are Sky capping me ?

When I Joined last week I was averaging 14.5 MB, but the test was done mid morning. Tonight its down to 11.6MB average (best was 12.1MB). Both tests were done in master test socket.
      Cheers

The large file was downloaded in less than 15 seconds, started at 8Kb/s averaging out at around 2.5Kb/s

if it was done in 14 seconds then you were downloading over 1MB/sec...I have a 4.5Mbps connection and download at 450KB/sec so sounds like you're spot on for your connection...

Re: Just been activated, are these stats any good

Just got off the phone from sky TS. Spoke with a very nice guy called Adrian, and we tried a few checks, but still the speedtest.net test was 10000 kbs or less. Last resort was to press the reset button on the modem - Bingo !

The next test the speed lept up to 14435 kbs, much the same as it was when I was first activated. He also commented that their system show the line has a max bandwidth of 21Kbs, so he has escallated the call to tier 3 to see if there is anthing they can do to tweek the setting to give me the full 16MB - that would be nice, but I'm happy I'm back up to 14.5Kbs

Re: Just been activated, are these stats any good

It is technically impossible to get a download speed equal to the connection speed. The only way your speed will increase to 16Mbps would be if your connection speed was increased to about 18Mb, I don't know if Sky will do this. At the moment you are getting 90% of the connection speed, which is pretty good
